Private One-to-One Violin Lessons for Children

Learning the violin as a child opens the door to a lifetime of musical enjoyment, confidence, and creativity. My lessons are designed to be fun, supportive, and inspiring, giving every young musician the chance to develop strong foundations in technique, tone, and musical understanding — while enjoying the process of learning and making music.

With over 25 years of teaching experience and a full DBS certification, I tailor each lesson to suit your child’s age, personality, and learning pace. Lessons take place in my dedicated music room in Hove, where children can learn in a calm, welcoming space equipped with everything they need to succeed.

Lesson Structure & Focus

Each lesson is a blend of technical development, musical expression, and performance confidence. I work with students to:

  • Build good posture, bow hold, and left-hand technique

  • Learn to read music fluently and develop a strong sense of rhythm

  • Explore both classical and modern pieces suited to their ability

  • Prepare for ABRSM or Trinity graded exams (if desired), ensuring steady progress through the grades

  • Develop listening skills and musical awareness through fun, engaging activities

  • Gain confidence performing for family, friends, and school events

Whether your child wants to play purely for enjoyment or work towards formal grades, I’ll support their goals with patience, structure, and encouragement.

Lesson Options & Pricing

I offer flexible lesson lengths to suit different ages and levels of experience:

  • 🎵 30-minute lessons – £20

  • Perfect for developing players building confidence and consistency.

  • 🎵 45-minute lessons – £30
Recommended for intermediate students working towards graded exams.

  • 🎵 1-hour lessons – £40
For advanced young players preparing for higher grades or performances.

Lessons are booked weekly during term time, and I expect weekly attendance to help children progress steadily and maintain enthusiasm, alongside regular practice at home.

Performance & Progress

Alongside lessons, I help students find opportunities to perform in school concerts, local music festivals, and youth ensembles. Performing regularly builds confidence and helps students experience the true joy of sharing their music with others.

As both a teacher and active performer, I believe in nurturing a love of music that lasts well beyond the lesson room. Watching my students grow — from their first simple tune to confidently performing or achieving their exam goals — is the most rewarding part of what I do.
