FAQ: Violin Lessons

1 / What ages do you teach?

I teach children from around five years old upwards, as well as adults of all ages and abilities. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s age, experience, and goals.

2 / Do I need my own violin to start lessons?

It’s best if you have your own violin to practice between lessons, but I’m happy to advise on the right size and quality for your level before you buy or rent one. However for the first lesson I can provide a violin.

3 / How often are lessons held?

Most students have weekly lessons during term time. Regular practice and consistent lessons are the key to steady progress.

4 / Do you prepare students for exams?

Yes, I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity graded exams if they wish to take them. However, lessons can also be purely for enjoyment if you prefer not to follow the exam route.

5 / Where do lessons take place?

Lessons are held in my dedicated music room in Hove — a quiet, comfortable space fully equipped for both children and adult learners.

6 / Are you DBS certified?

Yes, I hold an up-to-date Enhanced DBS Certificate and have over 25 years of teaching experience in both state and independent schools.

FAQ: Performances

1 / What kind of events do you perform at?

I perform for weddings, private parties, corporate events, and studio recording sessions, offering both classical and electric violin performances.

2 / Can you learn specific songs or requests?

Absolutely — I’m happy to learn special pieces for your event. There’s a small additional fee for bespoke arrangements or songs not already in my repertoire.

3 / Do you perform outdoors?

Yes, I can perform outdoors, weather permitting. I just ask that there’s a shaded or covered area to protect both my instrument and equipment.

4 / What equipment do you provide?

For most events, I bring my own professional sound system, backing tracks, and everything needed for a seamless performance.

5 / How far do you travel for performances?

I’m based in Hove and perform across Sussex and the South East. Travel beyond this area is available by arrangement.

6 / How do I book?

You can get in touch through the enquiry form to discuss your event or lesson needs. A £100 deposit secures event bookings, with the balance due one week before the date.

FAQ: General

1 / Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes! Lesson or performance gift vouchers make a wonderful present for birthdays, anniversaries, or special occasions.

2 / Can I watch a lesson before booking?

Parents are always welcome to sit in during their child’s lesson. For adult learners, I’m happy to offer a one-off trial lesson to see if it’s the right fit.

3 / What happens if I need to cancel a lesson or event?

I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice for lesson cancellations. For performances, cancellation terms are outlined in the booking agreement.
